According NPSC chairman Johnstone Kavuludi, majority of OCPDs, their deputies, divisional CID bosses and other senior officers were found unsuitable because of aiding criminal activities, obstruction of completion of criminal investigations and misuse of power.

“Most importantly, vetting has brought to the limelight the existence of complex corruption networks and the interface between senior and junior officers," Kavuludi said.

He noted that juniors are expected to extort from the general publics then share with their seniors under strict instructions.

“This was revealed as a result of some senior officers submitted fake M-Pesa statements during the probing exercise,” he said.

Out of the 1,364 officers vetted since June last year, only 1,272 were cleared, 29 await their fate while the rest have been dismissed.

Kavuludi further revealed that the next round of vetting will target all traffic and weigh-bridge officers across the country.
