Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chair person Sarah Serem has urged county governments to stop spending a lot of money on foreign trips that don’t yield fruits but instead invest in development.

Speaking at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly Monday after paying a courtesy call to Uasin Gishu County Speaker Isaac Terer, Serem said that a lot of money was being wasted by MCAs through foreign trips.

“I am not saying that it's bad to travel abroad but it should only carry reasonable number of people. It’s sad that there are some counties that send the entire county to in foreign trips. They should only go for foreign trips if there is need,” she said.

She said MCAs were elected to serve the people and not to give them a burden of paying a lot for their trips which she said were just for entertainment.

She challenged county governments to help the President in the fight against corruption by declaring zero tolerance to corruption.

“Our mandate is to establish equity in remuneration of all salaries of all civil servants through conducting job evaluation as means of addressing the existing disparities and inequities in salaries of public servants,” she said.

She added that the job evaluation exercise will help in harmonising salaries.
