President Uhuru Kenyatta was a playful boy who liked interacting with people, especially workers at their Gatundu home.

This has been revealed by a close servant and driver of the First Family who recalls the generous boy that later rose to take his father's seat.

According to 74-year-old Mugo Karuga, the ever playful boy freely engaged in games with other boys his age without considering his social class.

‘’Uhuru loved riding his bicycle. Many times he would ask me to ride it and experience its comfort which I fondly did,’’ said Karuga.

Karuga lived with the First Family, serving as driver of their Mercedes Benz 280 SE registration number KPS 810 that was assigned to President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s security detail.

Since Karuga also served as a security guard at the home, he says the president was always offering him First Family niceties in a generosity flow that never stopped.

‘’If there is something I miss, it is those delicious meals the First Family used to be served. My young friend would never let me go hungry while manning the gate, he would always ensure that the cooks served me from the family kitchen,’’ he said.

He recounts how barefoot school children visited President Jomo Kenyatta and the young Uhuru could not resist to join them.

‘’As the children started entertaining the President, I saw Uhuru rush to the dais and whispered something to his father. The young boy immediately removed his shoes and joined the choir,’’ he said.

Later, Mzee Kenyatta ordered that the boys be taken to the nearest shopping centre where each was bought a pair of shoes.

‘’Had Uhuru not requested his father to remove his shoes and join the children in the choir, perhaps Mzee would not have seen the need to have the children who had entertained him to be fitted with shoes,’’ he said.
