Striking nurses at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town have warned that delivery of health services at the second largest health facility in the country may be totally be disrupted within the next seven days if their demands will it have been looked into.
According to the nurses, operations at the Hospital are now depending on Moi University school of medicine students who are scheduled to close next week.
"The Hospital is only operational today because they are using students to provide services to patients but once they are out of school next week the facility will be as good as being closed down," said the MTRH chapter Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Deputy Secretary General Daniel Osoro in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
Osoro who spoke as the over 800 nurses held a peaceful demonstration in Eldoret town further asked the government to stop using the Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC) to deny them their right to salary increment.
"Our demands are very simple, all we want is a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) we signed with the Hospital be implemented but the management is telling us that it must for SRC's approval which we think is a plot to deny us our rights," he said.
MTRH nurses have been on strike since June 1, demanding the implementation of a 2015 CBA.
The Hospital's management has however insisted that the CBA can only be implemented once they get a green light from the SRC.
