Normal operations resumed at St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Gilgil after the Gilgil sub-county security and intelligence team on Friday morning moved in to enforce a stay order granted by a Nairobi court  barring dismissal, and eviction of the hospital workers by the Assumption sisters.

The petition had been filed by the workers at the facility against the Assumption sisters.

The security and intelligence team that ensured normalcy at the facility on Friday was led by the  Gilgil deputy County commissioner Muthike Ndambuki,  OCPD Serah Koki, DCIO Joseph Owiti and  sub county AP commander Quantai Kabuo.

The workers at the facility had secured the order on Thursday after moving to court under a certificate of urgency which among other prayers sought to stop any recruitment of new staff.

On Friday by the time the security officers moved in, vandalism had occurred on Thursday night where assorted hospital items were allegedly stolen by locals said to be supporting missionary Doctor Bill William Freda.

Police however rubbished the claims and instead said the items were picked by hospital staff for safe keeping after they panicked on hearing that Assumption sisters were to take over the hospital on Friday morning.

Addressing media on Friday at the facility, Gilgil Deputy County Commissioner Muthike Ndambuki stated that they had held a crisis meeting and the hospital lawyer assured the workers of their job and stay at the facility.

“Actually we have assured the workers of their safety and we have asked them to return whatever item they took and resume work as police continue with investigations,” said Ndambuki.
