Ruiru MP Ng’ang’a King’ara said the government should engage stakeholders to set aside the demonstrations zones for the purpose of protecting property.

"Demonstrators have rights to protest but we have witnessed protesters destroying property. I am appealing to the government to set aside specific areas, streets and major towns where demonstrations can be held in peace without destroying property and deaths,” he said.

The legislator said there were over 175 demonstrations between 2016 and 2017 some of which were organized by opposition NASA where property worth million shillings was destroyed and loss of lives.

“Demonstrations in major town such as Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa should be restricted for the sake of ensuring investors property is protected. We also want investors to invest in the country but unnecessary demonstrations all over the country will scare away the investors,” he noted.

He was speaking in Ruiru town on Wednesday.
