The national government has been told to set up a minimum standard wage bill across all sectors in the country to avoid exploitation of workers.
Chris Nyangau, a Kisii-based health and safety officer, says no clear lines on standard minimum wage bill is to blame for exploitation of most Kenyans.
He was speaking in Kisii town today saying employers are left with the decision of determining what amount of wage to pay their employers which leaves room for exploitation of workers where most of them are paid peanuts.
The low level of education that is ignorance and poverty levels in the country gives employers an upper hand in the exploitation of workers.
“The national government should set a standard minimum wage bill. This will minimise cases of exploitation of our workers whom some of them really strain hard and are paid peanuts,” he says.
He added that the national government should ensure that the safety of all workers is secured by ensuring, good sanitation, healthy working condition which include clean water by conducting regular checks.
