Kisii county youth coordinator Steve Arika, has called politicians and leaders to set measures on how they can help the community rather than preaching unity of self-interest.

Arika criticised some elected leaders for preaching unity of purpose in the local community but failed to identify themselves with assisting needy students who need help more so in pursuing their education.

Speaking to this writer on Monday at Kisii town, Arika said that it is the time leaders’ needs to focus on helping the society by initiating unity through actions.

“As leaders of this region, they should identify ways of helping the society more so in helping the needy students so that they can join universities. Students are the future,” said Arika.

He also added that for the community to move ahead education sector should be identified and given first priority by leaders.

“Preaching unity needs identification of areas which needs to be addressed by our leaders, so we challenge them to come up with strategies on how they will address issues facing the community,” added Arika.

However, he advised students who have been receiving help from professionals caucus to set a sound foundation from the onset by embracing hard work and discipline in their studies as budding responsible leaders.
