Police, chiefs and the residents of Gachororo on Thursday arrested a man accused of brewing illegal alcohol in the area.
The raid came after police received a tip off from members of the public and concerned leaders who joined in the arrest.
The officers apprehended seven men and confiscated over 1,600 litres of illicit brew and several cartons of wines and spirits hidden under a water reservoir.
Area Chief Daniel Chege said the local administration had already done their part of handling the raids and the culprits will remain in police custody waiting to be arraigned in court for prosecution.
“The public has shown a lot of support in curbing brewing and consumption of the illicit brew in the area and that has made it easier for us to make arrests,” said Chege.
He warned residents against engaging in the illegal business adding that those who will be caught will be arrested.
The chief noted with concern that the school children in the area who are on holiday are part of the consumers of the brews saying that there is need for parents to talk to their children regularly to prevent them from indulging into criminal activities.
