Seven people died on the spot after a matatu they were travelling in lost control and plunged into the Kipkaren River at Musembe along the Eldoret-Bungoma Road on Saturday evening.

Eight more people were rushed to the Lumakanda Sub-county hospital with a number in critical condition.

According to police reports, the Eldoret-bound matatu was speeding and it is said that the poor night visibility led to the driver losing control and hitting into the river.
