Seven people were on Friday night injured after supporters of Uasin Gishu gubernatorial candidates incumbent Jackson Mandago and tycoon Zedekiah Bundotich Buzeki clashed in Eldoret town.

Eyewitnesses said trouble begun when Buzeki's convoy with hundreds of supporters made a stop over at the Silver line hotel, a known spot of governor Jackson Mandago's supporters.

When Buzeki who was in the convoy tried to speak, supporters of the two camps hurled stones at each other.

Buzeki had to be hurriedly whisked away.

"Buzeki is aware that the place is Mandago’s base with a lot of supporters and he came purposely to provoke them," said one of the Mandago supporters who was at the scene.

"We were just campaigning and the other faction didn’t want to hear what Buzeki was saying leading to the clash," noted a Buzeki supporters.

Seven people sustained injuries during the clash and were taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

The businessman who is vying on as independent candidate had earlier held a rally at Huruma ground before making his way into the town. 

Mandago's supporters now want action taken against Buzeki for campaigning past the stipulated time.

Police had to be deployed around the area for patrolling in a bid to ensure calm is restored.
