Seven passengers travelling to Kisumu from Busia on Saturday sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and plunged into a ditch.

The over speeding vehicle according to witnesses lost control before hitting a tree at the roadside.

The accident occurred at Lela along the Kisumu-Busia highway at about 2:30pm.

“The vehicle was being driven at a very high speed," said Mary Awilo at the scene of the accident.

"I would see it sway along the road as it came down. It veered off before hitting a tree and plunged into the ditch."

George Otieno, a traffic officer who was among officers who evacuated the injured cautioned drivers to be careful when driving saying their safety and the passengers safety is paramount.

“I urge everyone to be vigilant. Obey the road rules and avoid over-speeding lest stern legal action will be taken against you.” he warned.

Those injured were taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu town.
