Seven Kenyatta University Student have been detained by police for 5 days after being linked to riots in the institution.The students went on rampage in November last year and destroyed property worth sh 84 million.The seven include David Kebaso Morara, a law student who unsuccessfully vied for chairperson to the Kenyatta University Students’ Association (KUSA) in the November election, Dominic Ochieng, George Nyamwea, Trevar Agoi, Eric Masila, David Amisi and Victor Nangacho.The students were protesting results of the KUSO elections where administration block was burnt and a gate destroyed.Police investigating the matter on Thursday asked the court to detain them pending investigations.Detective Joseph Keter, told Kiambu Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku in a sworn affidavit that the require atleast 5 days to complete investigation because they could influence investigations. Mr Keter says Mr Kebaso has huge student following to influence investigations.Keter says that their detention will deter them from causing tension among students.Mr Keter also wanted the Students compelled to provide PIN and Passwords for their phones which are in possession of the police.
