A report on the state of education in Uasin Gishu has revealed that learning levels in the county are low.According to a survey by Uwezo, an initiative of Twaweza East Africa, seven out of 100 children in Class 8 cannot do class 2 level work.The report further reveals that children in private schools have a higher literacy levels compared to their counterparts in public schools."A class 3 pupil in a private school is twice more likely to read English story than his/her counterpart in a public school," reads part of the report."52 out of 100 class 3 pupils in public schools can read a class 2 story in English compared to 68 out of 100 in private schools," adds the report.Addressing the press in Eldoret town after the release of the report, Thursday, Uwezo Kenya district co-ordinator Joshua Kemboi reiterated the need for parents to closely monitor and mentor their children."This is the only way we can help improve our children's education level and ensure they are doing the right thing at school," said Kemboi.The report was complied from 1,087 households, 2,208 pupils and 90 schools across Uasin Gishu county.[Uwezo Kenya district coordinator Joshua Kemboi displays a learning Assessment report for Uasin Gishu after its release in Eldoret, April 13, 2017.
