Seven traders have been nabbed with plastic bags in Mwala, Machakos County.

The lot were arrested by police after they were found in possession of banned plastic bags at Masii Shopping Centre on Monday evening.

They included four men and three women.The suspects have been locked up at Masii Police Station awaiting to be arraigned in court.Confirming the incident, Mwala police boss Henry Kimathi said usage of the banned plastic bags was cropping back in Mwala Sub County.Kimathi said police will conduct series of crackdowns to eliminate plastic bags in the region.“People should learn that the ban on plastic is still there, the grace period given by the government ended last year," Kimathi said.Kimathi said the vise was prevalent among those trading in 'Miraa' and vegetables.He said the law won't bend on anyone found culpable of using banned plastic bags.“Stern measures will be taken against anyone breaking this law, let everyone be warned," Kimanthi said.
