Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab has attacked a town near the Kenya-Somalia border and killed at least seven Somali soldiers, The Standard has reported.
Reports indicate that the group pulled its fighters out of El Wak town overnight on Saturday.
Speaking to the media from Baardheere town, Somali Major Mohamed Jimcale said that government forces had moved back to another town with the African Union's AMISOM base.
"We lost at least 7 soldiers and two vehicles," said Jimcale.
Further reports indicate that the militia group had previously destroyed a communication network in the area before the attack.
The North Eastern part of Kenya has been victim of such attacks, something that forced the government to close down the Dadaab Refugee Camp in Garissa over speculation that it habited terror gangs.
