A seven-year-old boy was electrocuted in Likoni, Mombasa County, after an electricity pole fell following heavy rains being experienced in the area.
The boy, who was a standard one pupil at Kajue Primary school, reportedly stepped on an electric wire unknowingly and got electrocuted.
Confirming the incident, Likoni OCPD Willy Simba, said the boy died while being taken to a nearby private health facility for treatment.
“The electric cables were brought down by a tree that fell on the power lines that ran through the area. The area has recently been experiencing heavy rains accompanied by strong winds,” said Simba.
The OCPD acknowledged the concerted efforts of local paramedics who tried their best to resuscitate the primary school kid.
Simba urged area residents to exercise caution, especially during the rainy season, noting that such incidents could rise owing to the fact that the area also has underground cables.
