Desperate followers of the Cord coalition downed their tools and gathered at the IEBC offices in Kisumu led by Kisumu East MP, Shakeel Shabbir and county MCA’s.

Huge numbers of armed police officers who had been deployed ruthlessly repulsed the demonstrators with teargas, and dog-tired them up in an effort to stop the marchers from proceeding to the IEBC offices.

Businesses in Kisumu came to a standstill leaving many business people injured as they were leaving their premises after the mayhem caught up with them.

Two female MCA’s were reported to have suffered minor wounds.

Cord protesters in Nairobi came out in a huge multitude all the way to Anniversary Towers. The anti-riot police dispersed the crowd using teargas, and water cannons leaving many businesses in uncertainty at certain sections of the CBD.

This was the third week of continuous Monday protests by Cord leaders and supports aimed at pushing the government to restructure the election body in Kenya (IEBC) to conduct a fair election.

On Sunday, Cord leader, Raila Odinga underscored that he had set to use protests since the institutions that should bring election body changes in electoral laws would not be trusted to manage the same.
