Several people were injured in two different road accidents along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, causing a heavy traffic jam along the busy road.
Three passengers of a 14-seater matatu suffered serious injuries, after the vehicle they were traveling in rammed into a trailer that was making a u-turn, not allowed along the highway, at around 10.30am at Kiambaa area.
Eyewitnesses said the driver of the matatu, travelling from Kawangare to Limuru, was unable to apply the brakes quickly enough to stop ramming into the trailer that was wrongfully doing a u-turn on the busy stretch.
Kikuyu base commander Charles Odhiambo confirmed the accident, saying the injured were rushed to the PCEA Kikuyu Hospital, while the vehicle wreckage was towed to the Kikuyu police station.
“We are saddened by the tragic start to the week, the injured are stable and receiving treatment at the PCEA Kikuyu hospital,” said Odhiambo.
Mary Wanjiru, a passenger of the matatuat the scene said she was shocked by the accident, but was grateful to God that there were no fatalities.
The second accident happened at around noon, where a Prado overturned at Arironis area along the highway.
The accident was suspected to have been caused by over speeding or the bad weather condition along the highway.
An onlooker, James Mburu said the driver might have been over speeding, but luckily the driver only sustained injuries.
