Residents of Turkana have decried the severe lack of water that has hit their region and asked county leaders to put away their political  differences and focus on finding a solution.

Speaking during the Public Service week held in Turkana West earlier this month, the pastoralists said that the water table in the area has reduced drastically, thus their livestock have died.

Paul Ekaroto said that the current dry spell has put a lot of demand on the one water pan that is available in the area.

“We walk for more than 120 kilometres in search of water and this takes a huge toll on both the herder and the animals,” he said.

Residents from Kakuma, Songot, Kalobeyei, Nanam, Lokichogio, Letea and Lopur said that the county government has made remarkable progress in other areas of development but still needs to look into the water shortage before they lose all their livestock.
