Months after Gusii water and sanitary company (GWASCO) renovated the sewages in Kisii county, the menace has sprout again.
Residents of Mwembe Tayari, Fort Jesus and Milimani estates want the county government to take action to curb the leaking sewage pipes in the areas which have affected their normal business routines.
"The county government should ensure these pipes are permanently made to avoid these leakages in future," said Edwin Nyakundi, a resident in the area.
The heavy rains being experienced in the area has accelerated to the leakages due to soil erosion which uncovers the pipes, therefore, subjecting them to damage.
Speaking on phone on Wednesday, Kisii central MCA Kepha Mogaka said that they are working towards correcting the situation into a permanent solution.
"I am aware of the leaking pipes and am working with the response team to ensure the pipes are repaired in time and a permanent solution is incorporated," he said.
Moreover, the sewage flows down into the stream, which is a major source of water in the region, exposing residents to communicable diseases.
Kisii county has over the past been in the media highlights due to the poor sewage systems which polluted majority of the water catchment areas.
