On Tuesday morning, sewage in Kibera flooded the area due to the heavy rains experienced at night.
Residents woke up to a rude shock as the sewage had flown to the pathway leading to poor transport.
Those on foot faced a lot of challenges moving from one place to another since they had no gumboots. Residents complained of poor drainage systems saying that this was the reason why the sewage had overflown.
‘‘The sewage has overflown and we are worried about leaving children to play outside. They can easily fall on the ground and drink the dirty sewages. Also, many of the children here have no gum boots. This is very dangerous because it can lead to them acquiring waterborne diseases,’’ said Edmond Mugita.
‘‘Some of the houses are on slopes and the sewage water now converts to the houses when there is rain and the sewages overflow. This is so dangerous and very unhealthy because the tenants cannot sleep peacefully. Some are forced to wake up and start fetching the sewage water from the houses. It is quite disturbing. I urge all residents not to throw litter anyhow because the litre blocks the sewage,’’ Adams Onyango added.
