A sex worker was on Friday arraigned in a Nakuru court to face charges of an attempted robbery and for possessing unsubscribed drugs, with an intention of using them to commit a felony.
Chief Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki heard that the accused, Monica Maganjo, 29, was found in possession of 200 grams of valium drugs in powder form at an entertainment joint in Nakuru town on the night of February 18, this year.
The prosecution desk told the court that the accused was arrested by Criminal Investigations Officers, who had been investigating her after receiving complaints from members of the public who revel at the entertainment joint.
The prosecution added that one of the CID officers who had posed as a customer of the sex worker alerted his colleagues to be watchful when he went to the gents.
It was at this juncture, the prosecution went on, that the accused removed a substance from her bra and empted some powder in the drink that belonged to the undercover police.
The accused was remanded in custody after the prosecution asked the court not to offer her bail or cash bond since she was likely to frustrate the case from proceeding by moving out of town, and that the charges were as a result of constant crimes complaints from a section of Nakuru residents, which needed to be dealt with firmly by the law to be a warning to other perpetrators.
The case will be heard on March 13.
