The Standard Gauge Railway project contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation shortly suspended its operations in Athi River town due to flash floods on Monday.
This follows heavy rains currently being experienced in the region.
Joash Omole, an employee at China Road and Bridge Corporation who spoke to this writer at one of the company's sites in Athi River town said they had been forced to temporarily suspend their operations due to harsh weather.
Mr Omole said River Athi that passes close to the SGR line under construction had busted as a result of its waters overflowing thereby flooding the project's construction area.
He said the harsh weather had also made it difficult to operate equipment during their daily operations in the rail's construction.
"The situation in our sites especially those along River Athi is pathetic, our machines especially vehicles can no longer move effectively due to storm waters which have flooded the area," said Omole.
A spot check by this writer revealed that very little work was going on as far as the project's construction is concerned with most of the CRBC's equipment lying un operated.
