On Tuesday President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the Standard Guage Railway(SGR) cargo unit and he set to launch the passenger section on Wednesday in Mombasa county.
The new modern trains have been given the name Madaraka Express a name that coincides with Kenya Madaraka celebration set for June 1st.
However, Thirdway Alliance presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot has dismissed the Standard Guage Railway project saying it is not a Jubilee development idea.
"First of all SGR is not even a Jubilee government project this is a project that was started by the government of national unity," said Aukot.
The lawyer-cum politician took a swipe at the Uhuru's administration saying that the project has in fact pulled Kenyans into a lot of debts.
"What Jubilee government has done is to use the SGR as a basis of more borrowing," he said.
"I would not use the SGR project to burden Kenyans more in terms of borrowing, if I has the opportunity to work on the SGR I will just modernise our current railway system," he added.
The SGR project was completed at a cost of Sh327 Billion.
