The Kenya Red Cross, Mombasa branch, has lauded the move by the Kenya Railways Corporation to set up a special booking desk and seats for students who will be traveling to join form one in various schools in Nairobi or Mombasa.Kenya Red Cross Mombasa Branch Coordinator Rajab Mohammed Said said that the move being implemented by the Kenya Railways Corporation, the Kenya Red Cross Society and the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) was meant to ensure students report to school on time.Speaking in Mombasa on Tuesday, Rajab said that under the partnership, the three organisations will ensure students and their parents are attended to by special staff at the Standard Gauge Railway station at Miritini in Mombasa and at Syokimau area in Nairobi.Rajab said students will also be allocated special seats in the coaches so that they are properly attended to and their property protected.“Remember under this initiative, the parents who will have accompanied their children will also be accorded the same service as their children,” said Rajab. He, however, urged parents and the students who will be using the SGR to travel from Mombasa to Nairobi or from Nairobi to Mombasa to observe time so that they benefit from the programme.“We understand that there has been a crisis in road transport especially after the night travel ban by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), that’s why we came up with this alternative for our students,” added Rajab. The special transport programme for students joining form one started on Sunday. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
