Raila Odinga has claimed that the government intends to divert the SGR route.
According to Odinga, the plan is all meant to benefit the first family, revealing that the initial route was for the railway to extend to Kisumu.
He further says that the dry port and the land through which it will pass in Naivasha is owned by the Kenyattas.
“The move to divert the SGR to Naivasha is meant to benefit the Uhuru family, which owns the land where the Industrial Park will be located,” he said.
“When Kibaki and I gave a nod to the project, it was meant to start from Mombasa to Kisumu, but due to some poor leadership, it has been diverted to Naivasha,” he added.
Odinga was speaking in Kamere grounds in Naivasha on Wednesday.
He further revisited the post-election violence that rocked the area, saying the Jubilee administration had not resettled the integrated IDPS, more than 10 years since the incident happened.
“Naivasha has over 5,000 IDPs, but the Jubilee government has refused to compensate them,” he said.
The opposition chief accused the government of buying voters, citing a recent visit of the president and his deputy to Kisii.
