Orphaned and vulnerable children from 3,636 homes in Nyamira County have received an aid of up to Sh 29 million from the national government through the children department. Every home received money amounting to Sh 8,000 including the homes that are taking care of orphaned children. After receiving the money from the programme dubbed Cash Transfer for orphans and vulnerable children, the parents and guardians said that the money will help them pay school fees and buying food. “I am happy for this initiative by the government to help us with money for orphans, our children had suffered a lot,” said Jacqueline Moriasi one of the parents that received the money. The parents also called on the government to increase the money citing that not everyone was able to get the help. Speaking during the giving out of the money in Nyamira town, the county children officer Samuel Masese said that the money had come at the right time when schools have opened and called on the parents to make sure they pay school fees for the children. He also asked the parents to buy food for the children and also buy seedlings for planting during the onset of rains.
