Athletes in Nyamira County have welcomed the move by the County government to construct a world class stadium worth Sh 63 million in the region.
According to veteran athletes, Robert Ouko and Nyantika Maiyoro, the move will see a better performance and this will encourage youths to participate in various sporting activities that will eventually bring them good income.
“We are happy that the stadium is going to be a world class one and will have a capacity of 30,000 and also will allow the locals to exercise using better facilities,” said Ouko.
According to Nyamira Governor, John Nyagarama, the construction of the County Stadium has already started at Manga, Kitutu Masaba Constituency, and the contractor is expected to complete it in a year’s time.
The governor has already appointed veteran athletes, Robert Ouko and Nyantika Maiyoro as senior advisors to an 18-member county sports council selected to actualise the county sports perfection dream.
The governor said the county government was looking for partners to help complete the 30, 000 sitting capacity stadium in the time scheduled.
