The move to revive the water services is aimed at countering the 11 boreholes at Baricho Waterworks that were destroyed in the wake of the experienced floods from River Galana-Sabaki last week.

The heavy downpour upstream River Galana-Sabaki last week left more than 6,000 people in Kilifi County homeless. Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui announced the supply of water in Kilifi and Mombasa counties to start on Monday after they managed to clean and repair three wells that had broken down following the floods.

“Yesterday, (Thursday) we managed to restore two wells of which each borehole supplies about 11,000 cubics of meters of water that supplied water in Malindi and some parts of Kilifi,” Chelugui said. Speaking on Friday in Kilifi county headquarters where he was accompanied by Devolution Cs Eugene Wamalwa, Kilifi Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi and his Mombasa counterpart Ali Hassan Joho, among other officials said the three pumps have the capacity to pump about 50,000 cubic meters of water in a day.
