The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has destroyed goods worth Sh1 million that were seised and stored at customs warehouse in Eldoret town since 2016.

KRA Deputy Commissioner who is also the North Rift Regional Coordinator, Florence Otory presided over the destruction of the goods at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital incinerator in Eldoret town.

Addressing the press during the exercise she said the goods were condemned for non compliance of various guiding laws.

"The goods being destroyed include tobacco and other pharmaceutical products which do not meet the public health standards, plants and seeds which are a threat to our fauna and flora, toy guys which are prohibited under security laws as well as pornographic materials such as artificial male and female organs which are a threat to moral standards," said Otory.

"Destruction of such goods is a preemptive measure in protecting the society," she added.

The KRA Deputy Commissioner further revealed that they have installed a scanner at the airport which enhances verification and detection of uncustomed goods thereby improving efficiency and performance.

"All cargo offloaded from cargo planes are sniffed by the KRA sniffer dogs from our k9 unit. This is done in compliance to the 'Safe Framework of Standards' and the Anti-narcotics Regulations," Otory said.
