The Government Chemist has declared more than 8,000 bags of maize bought by the Samburu County government to be distributed to residents facing hunger as unfit for consumption.
According to kbctv.co.ke, test results revealed that the Sh11.5 million maize, allegedly bought from the National Cereals and Produce Board in October, is contaminated.
Speaking to reporters after chairing the County Steering Group meeting, Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal said maize samples were taken for testing by the SGS Ltd and found to be unfit for humans.
He now wants NCPB held accountable for selling bad maize to the county government.
He, however, said they have already ordered 5,000 fresh bags of maize from Nakuru.
But in a quick rejoinder, NCPB Maralal depot manager Kipngetich Mutai denied the claims by the Governor, saying they are yet to receive any official complaint from the county.
