A legal hurdle in the way of the construction of a Sh144 billion geothermal project in Olkaria has been removed following a High Court dismissal of a case by a bidder challenging the project.
Judge Odunga threw out the case file by bidders who were not pleased with the decision to award the project to another bidder.
Odunga found that the evidence provided did not meet the required threshold.
“In my view, there are no compelling reasons why I should interfere with the factual findings and without such interference, its legal conclusions cannot be faulted,” ruled Justice Odunga according to a story by the Standard newspaper.
The ruling is a being win for the government which is keen on reducing Kenya's reliance on hydroelectric power and broadening the country's energy mix.
The project is also expected to create many jobs.
