The County Director of Meteorological department, Mary  Githinji told the press from her office on Saturday that the machine will go a long way to boost equipments that will be used by the department to give accurate information which will help farmers plan their activities.

Githinji further observed that the automatic weather station would be manned by one officer thereby reducing operational costs for the benefit of the residents who rely on Agriculture as their source of income.

The Automatic weather station would boost the data collected by the observatory currently located in Thika.

Other Automatic weather machines which have survived being vandalized are situated at Uplands, Lagia in Lari, Kiambu, and Juja, in Gatundu South, Kabete and in Ruiru.

However, most of them are located in institutions, thus guaranteeing them safe custody from thieves who have appetite for metallic objects as some have even been electrocuted while mounting generators so as to steal oil.

Githinji said Kiambu County being expansive was lucky to be a beneficiary as only 4 others had been purchased this financial year to be distributed to other needy counties.

After the installation of the weather machine is done, plans are underway to also construct another observatory on a 3 acre farm in Kanunga once arrangements to purchase the land which will also hold offices for the department in Kiambu are complete.
