The Kiambu County government has set Sh157 million this financial year for the bursaries, Governor William Kabogo has said.
Kabogo, who was speaking during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Ndumberi playground, said his government allocated the funds to help the needy and bright students acquire education.
“For the county to produce enough and qualified doctors, pilots, engineers among other reputable professionals, we need to invest in our needy and bright students to acquire their desired education, and this is what county government is doing,” said Kabogo.
The governor said the fund is meant to cater for the less fortunate in the society and thus stringent procedures must be followed by beneficiaries.
He cautioned those charged with the responsibility of disbursing the fund against influencing and manipulating the requirements of fund to deny the needy access.
“County’s bursary fund is not for the provincial administrators, MCAs but it is government money meant to assist the needy in the society and leaders should own the responsibility that right people should be allocated the cash to accomplish their educational goals,” the governor added.
