An estimated Sh1.5 million Uwezo Fund remains uncollected at the Kamwangi headquarters in Gatundu North Sub-County.

Speaking at Ituramiro Township in Chania ward, Gatundu North on Wednesday, the area Uwezo Fund facilitation manager Julius Mwalya decried the low number of applicants seeking the fund.

Mwalya noted that the money has been in his office for quite a while, as he only received a handful of requests from women and youth in the area.

However, the manager reported that his office would release a few cheques worth 650, 000 shillings next week, to the few groups who had applied for the funds.

He urged more women and youth to form groups and register them with the social and gender department to enable them access the Uwezo Fund and any other development funds introduced by the government.

The manager, who was accompanied by the CDF coordinator Bernice Njoki among others, donated two water tanks to four youth and women groups which have launched car washing and water vending projects respectively.

Njoki said that the constituency office was committed to ensuring that youth and women from the region start income generating projects in a bid to improve their living standards.

The two constituency leaders also urged youth to apply for identity cards and register as voters saying the only way to better their livelihoods is by electing efficient leaders
