Speaking to the press on Tuesday outside the County Assembly building, the MCA for Viwandani Eunice Mureithi said that phase one of the rehabilitation will be to change the leaking roofs and it will cost Sh5 million.

"Some of these houses were constructed way back, about 50 years ago and they have never been renovated. We have received a number of complains and grievances from the tenants who want the houses to be renovated and I want to tell them that they grievances have been heard. The county government is soon going to start the renovation process,” said Mureithi.

The MCA went ahead and said that almost 80 percent of the houses are at the verge of collapsing due to neglect and their old state.

"Some of the houses are in a very bad state and they have even been neglected. The roofs are leaking and the toilets and bathrooms in most of the houses are not functional hence exposing the tenants to much suffering,” said Mureithi.

Martin Mugwe who is a tenant in Phase 2 estates welcomed the renovation move and congratulated the county government for hearing their plea.

"We welcome the move by the county government to go ahead and renovate the houses and also upgrade the feeder roads. We are also urging the county government to go ahead and address the burning issue of water and sanitation in most of the estates here,” said Mugwe.
