Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has said that construction of an economic zone in the county will start in August this year.
Chemno said the project near Eldoret town will cost the government Sh200 billion to be complete.
"The Chinese contractor was given the contract and we are expecting the multi-billion shilling project to start in August this year without delay,” he said.
The Deputy Governor said the county government will support the contractor to speed up the construction works for the purpose of improving the economy of the county.
He said once the project is complete, jobs will be created and as a result, the economy will improve since several businesses will be set up.
The project was commissioned by Deputy president William Ruto last year after a successful signing of a business deal by President Uhuru Kenyatta in China in May last year.
Chemno was speaking on Tuesday when he toured the site where the project will be constructed.
