The county government of Mandera has said the construction of a modern emergency center and maternity wing is expected to be completed in the next three months.
Mandera Governor Ali Roba said the new up to date emergency center and maternity wing are currently under construction at the Mandera County Referral Hospital.
Mr Roba who was speaking on Saturday while inspecting the facility said construction of the facility will help Mandera County improve medical services to its residents.
The new modern emergency facility which will have intensive care and high dependency units are being constructed at a cost of Sh200 million while the maternity wing will cost Sh64 million.
The governor said a similar construction is ongoing at Elwak sub-county referral hospital as the county government seeks to upgrade both hospitals with the intention of enhancing service delivery for the residents.
“The construction of the two facilities is in the final stages and will be operational 24 hours once opened. We will also have a modern laboratory, a dialysis centre and a pharmacy at this facility once completed,” said Governor Roba.
It is expected that after completion, the modern facility will be a medical hub serving neighbouring counties of Wajir, Isiolo and Marsabit.
Also present during the tour were Mandera East MP and a former Deputy Governor Omar Mohamed Maalim, Deputy H.E Mohamed Arai, county executives and senior county government officials.
