The steering committee of the 200-bed capacity hospital in Holo, Seme in Kisumu County, met on Wednesday to fast-track the construction of the facility that is set to be operational in April once phase one is completed.

The steering committee plans to have the hospital opened up in different phases.

The committee chaired by the Health CeC Dr Rosemary Obara on Wednesday declared that the pending reports be sent to the donor to facilitate further operations of the facility.

It was also suggested that the hospital should be named Sheikh Said.

The steering committee comprises of the DAWA Development group, East Seme MCA Seth Okumu, CeC members Nerry Achar, George Ongaya, Alice Obara and Water COs Maurice Owino among others.

The Sh200 million project whose construction has been ongoing since 2014, is spread on a 15-acre piece of land.

The hospital is being set up through a public-private partnership engagement between the County Government of Kisumu and the Dawa Development Group, a not-for-profit organisation based in Kisumu.

During an inspection tour of the facility early this month, Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr Ochieng' Owili reiterated Governor Anyang' Nyongo's vision of providing quality health access to all as stated in the manifesto.

"The completion of this facility will relieve the pressure on Kombewa Hospital and other facilities while ensuring that the people within the locality access quality healthcare services within reach," said Owili.
