21 million shillings have been released to facilitate construction of a children’s rehabilitation centre in Gatundu North which will be located in Kamwangi behind the sub-county commissioner’s premises.

Speaking after the release of the funds by the county, the sub-county public service officer Nancy Mwangi lauded the county for quickening the talks and approving the funds on time.

Mwangi noted that they have been holding talks with the county after making their proposal.

"We thank the county government so much for quickening the approval of 21 million shillings expected to facilitate construction of a three storey building that will be given to rescued street children. We also thank Nyamiti our commissioner for offering the county a land for the course," he said.

Mwangi revealed that the sub-county will liaise with the counselors to help end stigmatization of children by offering them mental counseling.

She noted that the one acreage land offered by the commissioner’s office will also offer carpentry, tailoring and other short termed technical courses which will be geared towards changing the livelihood of street children.

She offered to partner with the area scouts and girl guides to gather together the children and reconcile them.

"We have also spoken with Mambo the scouts association chairman who has offered us scouts to make sensitization campaigns against children stigmatization as well as reconciling them back to the society," she said.

Mwangi encouraged Gatundu North residents to consider giving food and clothing items to the unfortunate. She revealed that festive season is a time of sharing with the unfortunate.

Mwangi was speaking at Kamwangi social hall on Monday morning where she met government department officers before breaking for Christmas holiday.
