Nyamira County has set aside Sh2 million for renovation of a local dispensary to a Level Four Hospital, a senior health official has confirmed.
The money will also be used to purchase beds to increase the holding capacity in a program that seeks to establish at least two Level Four hospitals in every sub county in Nyamira.
Speaking on Monday when he visited Mwongori dispensary, Chief Health Officer Mr Douglas Bosire said the renovation will commence if few weeks’ time due to tendering procedures.
“We are keen as the health department to see at least two Level Four Hospitals in every sub county to reduce congestion in Nyamira Level Five hospital. Mwongori is one of the hospitals that will have its facilities improved and that will happen in few weeks’ time after we are through with tendering. We will equip it with more beds to increase its holding capacity,” he said.
Bosire said the dispensary will also have a maternity and children’s ward wing constructed courtesy of the county government and Dr Joy Kerubo Foundation.
“To make it a modern hospital, the county government will supplement us alongside Dr Joy Foundation to put up a maternity and children’s wing. This will help residents of Borabu constituency to receive health services near their homes,” he said.
When the project is completed, the hospital will join Keroka, Nyansiongo and Matongo as some of the Level Four hospitals in the county.
