Over 60 Chinese coin-slot gambling machines valued at over Sh3 million were on Friday burned in Eldoret town.
According to the Ainabkoi Deputy County Commissioner Jara Komora, the machines were nabbed in Kesses, Ainabkoi, Moiben, Soy, Turbo and Kapasaret Sub Counties.
Addressing the press during the exercise, Komora insisted that it was illegal to use Chinese coin-slot gambling machines in the county.
He said most families have been broken, lives lost and youths involved in illegal acts as a result of gambling. The Deputy County Commissioner also advised Kenyans to refrain from the culture of wanting to be rich quickly.
“I want to give a stern warning to all those involved in these illegal business that their days are numbered. The crackdown will continue until all Chinese coin-slot gambling machines are destroyed," said Komora.
He further warned police against colluding with individuals involved in the illegal gambling activities in the county saying those found will be arrested and prosecuted.
The Chinese coin-slot gambling machines work in a way that when coins are dropped in certain slots, they allow the player to press the buttons randomly. If one wins, coins move randomly from the outlet.
