Uasin Gishu County Government has set aside Sh3 Million to be used in Kaptagat forest conservation efforts.

Speaking in a special sitting of Uasin Gishu County Assembly last weekend, Governor Jackson Mandago said the money will be used in buying and planting trees at the forest which has been declared a protected water tower.

"In order to maintain and protect water catchment towers, my government in collaboration with Elgeyo Marakwet Government has declared Kaptagat Forest a protected water tower,” said Mandago.

Mandago also revealed that every Ward in the county has received Sh1.5 Million for water provision to county residents.

The governor also announced that the World Bank will be financing two water treatment plants at a tune of Sh1 billion inorder to curb water shortage in the county which has come as a result of population increase.

"We are in the process of designing and constructing two water treatment plants at Kipkaren River which will be funded by World Bank and will give us an extra of 30,000 cubic metres of water,” said Mandogo.
