Kisumu County will use Sh30million to fence all the tourist attraction sites under its jurisdiction, a senior official has said. County executive for commerce, tourism and heritage Rose Kisia said that the money had been subdivided to each of the five sub-counties to carry out the fencing independently. The tourist sites up for fencing include: the Luanda Magere cultural site in Muhoroni sub-county, Kit Mikayi legendary stone, the Impala Sanctuary park, Nyandiwa Bird sanctuary, Dunga beach and Nyamwari beach. Kisia said that the county was focused on developing the sites to ensure that they can reap from the sector. "Kisumu County is focused on ensuring that the tourism sector is developed because the region bears a huge potential," she said. The assembly tourism committee chair Jackton Onunga said the idea of having to fence all the parks and tourist sites was to ensure that the county reaps maximum benefit from the tourism sector. “We have tabled bills in the assembly to ensure that we improve and sustain local tourism in Kisumu. We have made sure that we have an enabling environment for investment and tourism,” he confirmed.
