Installation of street lights in the six wards in Kisauni Constituency will improve security and businesses, Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo has said.Mbogo said the inspection of areas which require street lighting was already underway.Speaking at Magogoni area in Kisauni on Friday during an inspection tour, Mbogo said the Sh30 million project which is being funded by the national government aims as enabling residents to conduct their businesses until late in the night.The MP said street lights have proved to be a measure of curbing insecurity in many areas within Mombasa County.“We all know that Kisauni has had a bad history in terms of security and we are here to correct and fix the menace. Street lighting is the first step in ensuring all residential areas are safe and habitable for all,” said Mbogo.Mbogo said most women and youth conduct their small businesses late at night, adding that the project would serve as a major boost in their economic activities.“Some of our mothers are food vendors while our sons operate barber shops. Completion of the project will enable them to carry on with their businesses until late in the night,” he added.The six wards of Mjambere, Magogoni, Mtopanga, Bamburi, Junda and Shanzu are set to benefit from the project.This comes after Mbogo last week met with Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter to discuss the project.A section of business owners in the constituency has lauded the project, saying it will boost their sources of income.“It is truly a noble project. I operate a food kiosk here at Mtopanga area and I will be able to conduct my business until late in the night,” said Mariam Mohammed.
