The Nakuru County government has set aside Sh3.5 million to finance nursery school feeding programme, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.
Addressing reporters at his office on Monday, Mbugua said that the move will ensure nursery school kids go to school daily.
He observed that lack of food and other basic commodities has seen many nursery and primary school kids fail to go to school.
“We have set aside Sh3.5 million to ensure our nursery kids are fed and kept in school,” he said.
The governor stated that the programme will give priority to schools in arid and semi-arid areas of the county.
He added that the county has a total of 1,763 nursery schools and that the programme will target all of them.
Mbugua said that his government values education and has put in place measures that will ensure education standards are improved.
The former Administration Police commandant revealed that nursery school kids will be provided with shoes, school uniforms and other items.
He said that his government will support the free primary education programme to ensure every child has access to education.
Meanwhile, Governor Mbugua has called on the government to handle the grievances being raised by teachers’ across the country.
He said time has come for the national government to address teachers’ grievances once and for all, noting that failure to do so would compromise the standards of education in the country.
