The Anti-Counterfeit Agency (ACA) has called for concerted efforts in curbing fake products from flooding the country's markets.
ACA North Rift regional manager Yusuf Osman says there is need for devolved units to work with them as this will make it easier to curb infiltration of counterfeit products in the country from neighboring countries.
Speaking in Eldoret, Thursday, Osman further said there was need for partnership between state agencies like the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Police, Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) and intellectual property owners.
"The agency cannot enforce counterfeiting crime alone. We need to be in partnership with stakeholders and different agencies to ensure that we achieve our goal of having a clean market for our products," said the ACA North Rift regional manager.
"we also need the support of county governments even as we seek to devise means on how to combat counterfeiting," he added.
He revealed that the agency had netted counterfeit products worth Sh5 million in the region since it started operations in the region in January 2016.
"Majority of goods that had been seized in this region are electronics and construction goods," Osman said.
Osman also said that the agency was planing to move to the border areas and make sure entry points are sealed up to curb an influx of counterfeit products like sugar which are repackaged from neighboring countries as well as textile products and electronic goods like mobile phones.
