Police in Eldoret town on Wednesdays recovered 43 Kenya Power transformers worth Sh50 million that had been stolen.
According to the Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga, the transformers are suspected to have been vandalized from the Kenya power lines in different parts of the country. "We received information from the public that there were some transformers that were hidden in Maili nne estate in the outskirts of Eldoret, that's when we acted at speed and arrested 2 suspects," Mutunga said at Maili nne, Wednesday."Out of the 43 transformers seven of them were still intact while the rest were vandalized. Investigations are still underway to determine where they came from," he added. Mutunga revealed that the two suspects, the owner of the backyard and the other will be arraigned in court as soon as the investigations are over."At the moment we are still waiting for the Kenya power engineers to tell us whether the transformers are new or scrap," noted the OCPD who thanked the public for giving them the information saying such moves will help in the fight crimes."For the crime to end we need concerted efforts. We, therefore, urge resident to continue giving us information and we promise to take actions," he added.
