According to the Managing Director of National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation Andrew Wanyonyi, construction work will begin in October and its construction will be expedited to address the perennial flood menace in the area and also to help deal with the water shortage that is facing Kisumu and its environs.

The dam which is to be constructed along the Kisumu-Kericho border is going to supply water to Nyakach, Nyando, Kano, Kisumu town, Awasi, Miwani, Muhoroni and Awendo.

Mr Wanyonyi further confirmed the government is going to put aside Sh500 million to compensate those who will be displaced to create room for the project.

The information of this project has been greeted with happiness especially by Nyando and Ahero areas that have in the past faced the flooding menace during rainy seasons.
